Are these Government and Police auctions for real? How can they sell cars, homes and other things so cheap? These deals sound great, but they do sound a little too good to be true.

The sad truth is that everyday people default on their car and home payments, they also fail to pay taxes or are penalized for various reasons by the IRS. Others commit crimes and end up making money illegally and when caught their assets are seized.

All the different Government agencies and Law Enforcement organizations around the country collectively auction off these seized items in Government and Police Auctions.

Government auto auctions are some of the most popular because in many cases the vehicles being auctioned are Government service and fleet vehicles, which are known to be in excellent condition and hold their value rather well because of the meticulous maintenance they receive while in service.

Other vehicles at these Government auctions are not from service fleets and may be seized property. In which case buyers should scrutinize the overall condition of the vehicle and title before bidding.

Some auto auctions start their bidding at $100, this of course depends on the overall assessed value of the vehicle, which is estimated by the auction house.

Foreign cars and specialized collectors vehicles, which typically hold their value a little better, can also be found at Government auctions, but the starting bids for these types of cars normally start in the thousands.

There’s no way to know exactly what vehicles you can find at Government and Police Auctions as they’re all run by individual entities of either the Federal, State or Local Governments and sometimes by associated companies that handle the inventory for them.

Cars are always hot items at these auctions, pre-owned car dealers use these auctions to their advantage and are seasoned buyers with solid bidding strategies. Some auctions are closed, meaning they only allow licensed car dealers to attend, but most allow the general public to take advantage as well.
